700/4l60 and towing

Not really 3 gen related, But it will be used to pull my bird .
Can a 700 be strenghtened enough to handle pulling 6000lbs of truck+8000 lbs of trailer. I would really like to have overdrive when I'm not pulling the trailers.

Don't know if this helps much, but I towed my IROC with my 98 Tahoe with the 4l60E from San Diego CA to Valdosta GA with zero problems....about 2400 miles according to the U Haul place where I rented my car trailer. Of course, it helps to have a tranny cooler...a big must have when towing. And stay on top of maintenance.

As for the Tahoe's tranny, when I bought it the previous owner had the tranny rebuilt at AAMCO! When I towed my IROC it had about 14,700 miles on the rebuilt tranny. Despite how many people say AAMCO sucks, I'll admit this one is still holding up quite well.

It goes to show that you can't always judge a book by its cover. There really are some good people out there doing good things. You can have a really nice shop and crappy techs, and you can also have a real crappy shop w/ the some top-notch techs. Sounds like you got a guy w/ his head firmly planted on his shoulders.
