what gears to go with

i currently have 2.73 gears in my posi rear end. i would like for it to be quicker off of the line, but i dont want to loose a top-end. i know that a 2.73 is good for top-end, and a 4.10 is good for off the line, but is there a happy medium that is good for off the line acceleration and top-end? if so what is it?

Well I just posted in another topic, I believe that 2.73's are the 2 series carrier.....and now that I actually think about it, that kinda makes sense, 2.73's and below would be 2 series, "2" "2.73" Although, I can't remember if the 3.08's were 2 or 3 series. I think that 3.23's were series 3. If you search for topics from me in the past several years, you'll find a post where I asked the same question, I think that the series is writtten on the passenger side axle tube. Bah, I should either look it up or stop posting I like my 3.73's I had 4.10s for a while, but the cars max speed was like 127.54 MPH Thats pretty sad! Now as the car stands I think its max is near 155, and with the T-56 I am putting in it, it will be 174 MPH or so lol. Thats not bad! As for speedo I think you can get gears to adjust it all the way up to 3.73 ratios, but when I looked into it 2 or 3 years ago, no one made a gear to correct the 4.10's. Really the difference btw 3.42's and 3.73's is about 20-30 MPH off the top end....not much to worry about at all. The bigger jump will be 2.73 to whatever you go with....unless you jump "all the way" up to 3.08's....there will probably be no noticable difference there lol, your speedo probably would be close enough hehe. I asked the same question in a poll about 2 years ago and it seems like everyones favorite is 3.73. But whats good for everyone isn't nec good for you.

My handy dandy jegs seems to think that 3.08 and lower is 2 series. Im not sure if/where 4 series starts.

Yes, I realized later that the 3.08's were 2 series lol. I had COMPLETLY forgotten about that ratio! Then it occured to me that I was pretty sure that my car came from the factory w/ 3.08s and I thought well crap, I guess I'll have to go and correct that...
