From what I understand, the 4th gear lockup in the TQ Converter is controlled by the PROM. What RPM is this set at to engage?

 

my car locks up around 42 mph.

 

So the setting is a MPH setting and not an RPM setting. Is 42 correct for all 700R4 thirdgens? I mean assuming it's light throttle/regular driving conditions, etc...

 

as far as i know, its set by speed. all 700r4's ive driven lock up between 42-48 mph approx.

 

mine was locking at about 26 or 27, crappy.. disconnected for now..

 

i can feel my tranny lock in and out kinda around the 45 mph... which is around 1,500 rpm.

 

the lockup point depends on throttle position and speed.

A stock programmed, 90-92 L98 car, will lock the converter no earlier than 38mph, and only at light throttle. at 50% throttle it won't lock until approximately 46-47mph.
