Rear Gears for Dummies

Rear Gears for Dummies

ok I am read end illerate [if I can even spel that is]

I am not interested in a posi, I would just like to change my stock [86 bird T5] 1 wheel peel rear gears 3.42 to a 4.10-4.11 is there a cheap swap for this??? Is there a car or a truck that I could just steal gears out of from a junk yard and swap them in???

I am not even sure what I have besides the ratio number or what I am looking too replace, so explaine it for a dummie.

i believe if you look in 4 cylinder s10s you may find the ratio you seek, take the carrier too since you may, or will, run into problems with differant series carriers. other than the s10s (and i'm not sure) i think 3:73 is as good as you'll find in a 7.5" ten bolt rear from the factory.

I would not put a S-10 posi carrier in anything. It will be the good old Eaton Gov-Lock, otherwise familiar to many as the Grenade-Lock....
