They may have been to loose since it was last serviced. If you have not serviced it lately, I would go ahead and replace the filter and gasket and torque the bolts to spec.

Well, a trans service and a trans flush are two different things. A trans flush is better because you will exchange all 11 quarts of fluid. On the othe hand, a service will only replace 5 quarts of fluid, but you will have a chance to replace the filter, gasket and have a look in the pan. Most places that do the flush won't pull the pan off.

This can be a touchy subject with most transmission people but it's better to service the transmission by changing the filter then just having the system flushed. The little particals of debree like to fill the filter and reduce circulation. flushing the system with the conventianal method used today does not remove particals from the filter! I have a machine to flush transmissions but when it comes to my own car I drop the pan and do it the old fashion way of course it is nice just to suck the fluid out first.

Definitely change the filter and a fresh pan gkst and then have it flushed. We've got a flusher in our shop that has a sight glass and you would not believe the little bits of debris that you see go by! Its definitely worth having it flushed, that way you'll have nice clean fluid.
