Bulletproof drivetrain

I'm looking for a drivetrain that will hold up to 1200 hp. From the back of the motor to the tires, what would you suggest? I want to run 3:73 rear gears and have a 5 or 6 speed auto trans.
This will be bolted to an 84' Z28 with a SB. So what would you put in it?

a lenco trans, high strength steel drive shaft, and either a racing 9", 12 bolt or dana 60, with 35-40 spline axles, probably a long style clutch too, no diaphragm...need multiple plates. If your gonna use an automatic probably a glide....you can build a th400 to handle that power but it wont last forever.

I've got a couple of question????

1200HP from a SB?
5-6 speed Auto? I know they make them, but for 1200hp?

G0d I was seriously wanting to make a 900hp 502cin. That was a 1.8:1 hp/cin ratio! I was looking at some serious forced induction.
Your talking about 3.0:1 - 3.4:1 !!!!!! Are you going to weld the heads on?

you could make that power fairly easily....just not with gasoline youd have to use methanol and alot of boost. 900hp out of a big block isnt really that much if your not limited by fuel.

Our truck makes about 1500HP and its really a fairly mild build. its a 482 and only has an 8-71 BDS blower 10% overdriven.

the tranny thing, i dont know about that though

My goal is to have 800hp with the motor and supercharger, and get it up to 1000hp with a NOS shot. And I'd like everything to beable to take more then the motor puts out, just for a buffer, or if i want to mess with more. I'm not sure if they make a 5-6 speed auto that can handle the power, but i figure if they do some one here would probibly know about it. And if not, I know of an overdrive kit that adds an amount of overdrive to each gear witch basicly doubles the amount of gears you have (i'll try and find the site it was on).
And yes I will weld the heads on if thats the only way it would work.

Hey 'Rage13' your set...

The GEAR VENDORS in combination with the Powerglide is an affordable, reliable, and very efficient package. This is a superior alternative for most cars looking to go to a 3-speed. The GEAR VENDORS .78 to 1 ratio allows you to go to a numerically higher rear gear to improve your 60ft. times and get it all back with the overdrive. The reciprocal of our ratio is 1.28 so a car that currently runs a 4.56 rear could go to a 5.84 without loss of top end. You will have these improvements with reduced cost, greater reliability, and lower parasitic losses when compared to conventional 3-speeds. The overdrive is switched on with 12-volts and so is easily adapted to steering wheel buttons or automated through rpm switches. The product is ideally suited in stock form for cars with 1200hp or less and in this case is virtually indestructible, literally running for seasons of use without maintenance other than fluid. Cars with 1200+ horsepower can be accommodated but you should call the factory so hydraulic issues dealing with clutch ramp timing can be properly adjusted for your application.

oh good your sticking to a 700R4. I suggest Dana at Probuilt

(www.pro-built.net) for your 700R4. there is no such thing as a 700R4 that can handle 900 horsepower, more like 500-600 MAX, no matter where you look. Dana is the best in the buisiness, he will guide you straight. make sure your converter has an Anti-ballooning plate if you use a ton of N20. the lockup plate acts as an anti-balloon plate but an added one is recommened i think for high N20 applications. Hope your stall is above 2800 for those 4.11 gears you have... what kinda converter is it? 9.5" are the most efficient.

The coverter is a 10" superstreet fighter TCI with antibalooning plates. Stall from 3600-4000. People are now suggesting a TH400 but will I rev my motor too much on the higwhays?
