strength of the gm 9 bolt

strength of the gm 9 bolt

ok now i have a 89 formula how can i tell if i have a 9 bolt or not. also if i do have a 9 bolt how much power will this rear handle with a posi and a 3.73 or 4.10 gear?

Look at the rear end cover and count how many bolts there are holding it on.

I have heard that the 9 bolt is stronger than the 10 bolt, dont hold me to that though. Search the boards and see what u find...

so a 9 bolt will have 9 bolts and a 10 will have 10 is that right?

i have also heard that 9 bolts are stronger but my friend had one in his 84 z and it didn't last that long. i know that doesn't mean much though

yea, a 9 bolt is a lot stronger than a 10 bolt. the 9 doesnt have c-clips and the axles are stronger.....

According to 9bolt.com, the 9 bolt rear is supposedly stronger than the Dana 44.

Min has 87,000 original miles on it and with regular oil changes with Redline synthetic, it has worked perfectly after 400+ drag strip passes.
