The car SHAKES when shifting from D to R
The car SHAKES when shifting from D to R
Hiya folks,
With my current 1987 305 T/A being the first 3rd gen I have ever driven, I was just wondering if this is common:
When I shift (automatic) from DRIVE to REVERSE (or from NEUTRAL to either of those), the whole car shakes when the gear kicks in and I hear a "KADUNK". All this while standing still, of course!
My idle RPM is around 6-700 and the effect if especially noticable if I shift before the idle goes down after stopping. Nothing while driving suggests that anything is coming loose- even under max accelleration.
The 4rth gen I used to have would shift without it even being noticable.
Is my gearbox coming loose or what...?

The last time I had a problem with an auto, it was in a 3/4 truck that I overloaded. I burnt out the clutches and it did something similar. It would shudder when you first took off also. Dealer replaced the transmission. The truck was still under warranty
Good luck.

Hmm..doesn´t sound the same...my car only shudders as the actual gear locks into place.
It feels like when you lift the clutch too fast on a manual drive- but standing still.
What if the clutch plates are lagging behind- i.e. the gear cuts in before the clutch can properly disengage? Can this happen?
Maybe its just time for an oil replacement in the tranny? I´ve had the car for less than a year and I don´t know when the last owner did a tranny oil swap...
