Broken Shifting Shaft

Quick question. While installing my B&M Megashifter, I broke off the end of the shifting shaft which goes into the side of the transmission, right above the oil pan. I did a search and could only find one post pertaining to this, and it was only one person's opinion. I know you need to drop the pan. What I need to know is how much difficulty is involved in changing the shaft? Is it something what almost anyone can do, or is it something that would be easier to have a tranny shop throw in, to save the hassle and time? The amount of time I am looking at to be able to fix it is the span of one full day, on a weekend, as I am away at college. I'd appreciate anyone's opinion...

Thanks,
Ben

Im pretty sure you would have to take the pan down. I have never been in a 700R4 but if its like any other automatic transmission, the shift lever hooks to a "range valve" (i think thats what its called). That lever can probably be replaced without a whole bunch of effort. I'll check my old tranny manual and see what it looks like.

Nevermind, I got it done tonight. Was really easy, there is just a nut and a clip on the inside that you take off and you can pull the whole shaft out. The oil mess was the only thing bad about it...

Thanks anyways JAY!

Sorry about that man. I been working on my car also so I didnt have time to get online and respond.

I was gonna tell you the same thing. I looked in my trannny manual but I really couldnt tell by their drawings (not that great) but what I could make out you pretty much figured out.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.
