my car started shifting kinda funny yesterday so i check the fluid this morning and the dip stick was bone dry so i add some....the fluid just rushes straight out like i was just pouring it onto the ground......and also the torque converter was making a rattling noise like it was dry or something......i checked the bolts (which i could reach with the tranny still in the car) to the front pump.....they were all snug.....what could be wrong

the torque converter is an off brand.....is there anyway that it could be the problem?

please help!

i bought off of a guy that that bought it off of a guy that builds them for a living.....yes i know confusing LOL

Pump mods
This is what I did to my 200-4r pump. The 700-r4 is the same type of pump, so most of the mod can be used on it. Thanks
to Bruce Toelle of www.ptsnctb.com for this excerpt from his
"Strengthening the 200-r4" on www.turbobuick.com.

"Ok, now we modify the pump return hole by drilling it to 9/64ths. From both directions.
In pump bushing bore the 690 pump bodies have a "step" at which the bushing seats against when installed. The 082, 149 bodies do not, so we mill a slot on three sides of bushing bore 1/4 inch down. After red loctiting the teflon coated bushing, press in hole with arbor press and bushing driver. Then , "peen" the bushing or "stake" the bushing into the milled flats. Flip over , and press in red loctited seal into seal bore. Assemble all pump rotor parts in , of all things, Cam shaft install lube. The red stuff. "

I also put on a 700-4r seal retainer.

Mine did the exact same thing as yours. It ended up that a piece of the TC had broken off. I'll post a pic.....

LOL @ Britton. I remember that, that was nasty. I have never seen one break like that before.

as far as noises, I had loose bellhousing bolts (I find this out while I'm pulling the trans. ) and this I believe led to the snout of the converter being half broken off. It sounded like rod knock, except that I unbolted the flexplate to the converter, and it wasn't engine.

Just now fixed a minor u-joint problem (install dose clips!) and adjusted TV on the new 700 and all is well.
