why wont my tranny downshift

why wont my tranny downshift

hi i have an 88 camaro rs 5.0 liter v8 tbi .the tranny shifts good driving normal but when i punch it it wont down shift ,it will just slowly pick up speed what can it be help me out?

kickdown cable may be kinked or so? that would be my guess, they are cheap around 20 bucks...but a shop will charge about 80 to install it
