I just replaced mine in a 5spd car. It is right above the crossmember under the tranny. It only took me about an hour to do it. (getting car jacked up, getting tools, ect.) Heres a pic of what it looks like. It makes it real easy when you take the crossmember off too

sucks. is it necessary to support the tranny while doing this? is it ok for me to drive ot the parts store with only 3 bolts in?

I don't know if you need to but I did just to make sure I didnt break anything.
Are you refering to the bolts in the crossmember? If you are I think you should be ok to drive like that for a little bit.

I'd go with an aftermarket one
the OEM is like 10 dollars less than the after market (which is better)
so I'd splurge..
I had the same problem, peaked the hell out of me, till I figured out what it was..

I helped a friend replace the trans mount on his 89 Iroc a few days ago, and it was a really easy job. You do need to support the trans with a jack and a piece of wood or something, and I recommend doing this with the car on the ground if at all possible, because we had one side jacked up, which pushed the frame apart a little, and when we tried to put the crossmember back on, it wouldn't fit!

You don't have to remove the crossmember to do a trannie mount (at least on a 700-r4 I know). Just get a floor jack with 2x4 and jack it up under the trannie high enough to hold the transmission unbolt the 3 bolts on mount jack it up more and the mount should come free... if it doesn't come loose and is stuck put the center bolt back on tight (which means lowering the jack) and jack it up again... that way you pull the mount off the trannie and give you clearance. You can slip the old mount out and the new one in with a little working. Retighten the bolts you're good to go.
I did my spohn tq arm which had to replace crossmember... man it was a pita. I had to impact one of the bolts loose then the new crossmember wouldn't go back on.. I ended up getting a 4 inch or longer bolt to use on one side cause I had both bolts on the opposite side... when I did that it was easier to remount the crossmember again.

the tranny mount is just behind the pan, in between the crossmember and the tranny. very easy to change. i have done it atleast 6 or 7 times. i just jacked up the car, used a bottle jack and jacked up the tranny and if comes right off everytime.
you should also replace your torque arm mount while you are under there. pretty simple job if you have wrench to take off the torque arm. i didnt!. if it goes bad, you will get a clunking sound everytime you go into drive or reverse.

I got my ES Poly Mount from AutoZone. All of the AZ in my area are carrying them now. I would check there.

Peace out.
Peace out.
One of my front brakes locked up last year and I had to take my beloved 86 T/A to Meineke Muffler....and against my better judgment, I left her there overnight. When I picked her up the next day, all of the mechanics kept staring at me and acting weird. After I left the place, I got on it a bit to see how things felt. I discovered that when I even halfway floored it, the transmission lurched and felt like it was coming up through the floor. I immediately turned around and went back to Meineke, and as I pulled in the parking lot I noticed that in the side lot (which was gravel) there were a large quantity of deep donut marks that hadn't been there when I took my car in. As it turns out, the rat bastards had ragged on my baby so hard that they broke the transmission mount. AND I had to pay an extra fifty bucks to get it fixed. I raised hell but there was nothing I could do, they said it was already broken. I know my car like I know myself and that mount was not broken beforehand. I can only imagine what they did to her. My car has never been the same since.
