Blown trans???

The other day I was headed to school and going down the highway the trans slipped just a little twice, on the way home I was stuck in traffic then when I got out I got on the gas nice and easy and at 50mph it slipped up to 5000rpm and so I backed off and put my foot back on the gas and it did it again, droped into another gear (auto trans) and got nothing, tried second and first ang got noting but slipage, and to get it off the highway I had to hold it at 5k just to get 50mph. One guy said bad torque converter some other said the trans is blown. I can drive in first for a little bit then the RPMS jump up into the roof. Whats funny is that on the highway when I took my foot off the gas the rpms droped to normal, then jumped then droped to idle. Fluid and filter were both changed last summer, fluid is a tad dark but not to bad and there is plenty of fuild in the trans.
Thanks
David
P.S. V6 car 700-R4.

Probably ate the clutches... I did that too in my OEM 700-r4. I lost OD, then 3rd... 2nd on the way to shop... then 1st was slipping up to 6000 rpms and I was going about 25 mph (3.27 gears).

Might wait to see what other people say I'm no expert I'm probably wrong.

Transmission is history most likely. What condition is the fluid? Did it do this all at once?, or did it start slowly? Torque converters will not do this.

If you lost the 2-3-4 shifts all at one time, then most likely it is the governor gear (broken or stripped).

It did it all at once, i hope its just one thing and not needing an entire rebuild, I going to try and get it into a guy I know at a trans shop soon. Fluid looks a little dark but nothing major, same amount in as last summer.
