have any of you modified your tailhousing for the jags that run kit for the cable driven speedo with a t56? is it easily done? got pictures of the steps to do it? thanks

or....
is the Cable X box that Abbott sells worth it? which is better. abbott says that there is +- 2% error in the speed, that isnt significant is it? i mean at 100 your speedo will read 98 or 102.
whats all your opinions? i really want to get this taken care of. thanks alot!

how's about a search? I have one and it works fine. They only sell you the parts now so you'll have to find somebody willing to tackle the machining if you aren't capable of doing it yourself (mill required).

I have the cable x box on my Iroc, but be warned they aren't cheap. I don't remember how much mine was exactly but I know it was a little over $300 or so.

I like it alright, there is a little bit of lag, but that is to be expected I think. The worst part was ripping the dash apart to get to the speedometer cable, mine was being a pain so I had to end up pretty much taking the whole dash apart. Wiring it is a simple 3 wire operation. And then you just figure out how you need to set your dip switches with the manual they provide you. I went with the cable x box because I didn't have the time or option really of taking my trans apart and letting it sit to do the JTR mod. As it was my only car at the time.

Re: anyone done the JTR tailhousing mod themselves? or abbott Cable X

Im confused with this cable x vss whatnot. Is the vss hooked up through the factory speedometer unit and then to the computer or is it a wire near the 700r4? Im doing a t56 swap on 88 5.7 iroc. what pulse per mile do i look for when i program it? any help would be sweet - i can seem to get a straight answer....

Re: anyone done the JTR tailhousing mod themselves? or abbott Cable X

If you modify the tailhousing like the JTR kit, you will use the factory stock T5 VSS, either cable or electronic. If you use the Abbot Cable-X box, then the T56 VSS sends a signal to the box, then it turns the gears inside it which turns the cable to your speedometer.
I have a modified tailhousing like the pics in post #3.
