I built the rearend in this white camaro: http://sethirdgen.org/multimedia/rusty02.avi
And yes, thats a Z06 he's running up against

For those who have dial-up, it ran a 12.65 @ 108.8 on slicks. He made several passes that day, and never had a lick of trouble from the rear since then. I used a stock, unwelded housing, New Eaton Posi, GM 3.73 gears, Moser Axles and an aluminum cover (girdle).

moser axles
moser bearings

3.42 gears
that should hold a 14 sec 305. i hope

oh and that was a nice run, the strt could of been a lil better but still a goodrun. i like close races

Yup, thats a 7.5" 10-bolt from an '83 Z-28, I built it myself.

Alot of it depends on who builds it. I have seen some take mad abuse and hold up fine, and I have seen 15 second cars go through rear after rear after rear... There are other things that can help as well, like welding the axle tubes to the housing and (I never used one, but everybody raves about them) solid pinion spacers.

my 10 bolt has held up well so far to 12.0-12.2 passes, on cheaters, just foot braking it...... no real test for it thankfully.. no slicks yet.

it's an honest 7.5" set of gm 3.73's.. a handmedown from a friend of mine. i have the backlash set very tight on them, running an auburn pro posi, and stock everything else.

would that be this cover? Cover, Differential AAM Cast Aluminum

i am looking to change my fluid soon and was wondering is this a good one to get?

also slp state "Minor modifications to the axle housing are necessary to take advantage of the cooling capabilities of the cover" what did u have to do actually?

i recommend getting this cover. will give you extra insurance and is a good buy for our rear ends.

That's not a girdle cover; don't waste $ on that. A girdle will have two studs which help support the bearing caps.

Yes, they are correct, I used the one w/ the supports and the pre-load studs. The one pictured above is just a fancy stock replacement. I didn't have to do any mods to my housing or cover, mine came from Summit.

the difference between the two are:

the ultimate you can add a axle tube kit to to stop the axle tubes from moving about an extra 130 dollars which is a goo investment for the 7.5 but you don't have to get it if you don't want . here is a link to the page of what i'm talking about.

Jegs doesn't have the holes for the setup

hope this helps

I have it on my car ...

HOWEVER, as I mentioned in your other post, don't invest in the 10-bolt. It's the biggest mistake I ever made. Why invest close to 2K in a crappy 10-bolt when you can buy something better. Yes, 10-bolts can last into the 1.5-1.6 60ft range at the track on cars running in the 11's. No big deal ... hahaha ... until you put a manual tranny in front of it. Automatic trannys are soft and don't shock the driveline. That's why you can get away with 1.5-1.6 60ft times. But, put a manual in there and you will shatter the ring and pinion.

Yeah, we only spent about $1,000 to build up that rearend. If your going to spend $2K+ , you may as well get a 12-bolt or 9"
