I can just pull the shifter from 2nd to 1st WITHOUT pressing the button in and make the transmission downshift... I do NOT like this. How can I fix it?

Also, when I go from Park to Drive... it JERKS. Could these problems be related to the shifter cable (not the TV cable)?

The shifter going from 2nd to 1st without the button is normal. There isn't anything you can do about it.

When you say it "jerks", what are you talking about? The car or the transmission?

 

It is normal? I had an '88 IROC before... and I don't remember it doing it?

 

Yes, it is normal. The same thing happened on both of the automatic camaros that i have owned

 

The jerking is the torque of the motor. It is normal too.

 

This is why a lot of folks prefer the control of an aftermarket shifter - B&M Megashifter, Hurst, etc.

When I had the auto in my car I loved my megashifter. Not terribly expensive. You might want to consider. Second to First is not as bad as any gear to Reverse

thats weird, my shifter wont even go into first ut i can shift between Overdrive and drive without the button. it would be nice to be able to feel how my car acts in first gear, i have to use 2nd ffor good acceleration up to 50mph ans then i shift to drive or overdrive to go faster. drive and overdrive have crappy accelerationstopping at like 20 mh and taking awhile to shift. what do you think i need, a new transmission?

 

Did you do any type of swap as far as trannies go? You might just need an aftermarket shifter. Like the B&M Megashifter. I have it and I love it. It gives you total cotrol over all of the gears.
