need higher 1st to second shift in 700r4 HELP

car is as is in sig, the rebuilt 700 is from my old lg4 car and we never swapped the governer into it from the l69 tranny, but heres how it goes, holding the shifter in first, the tranny shifts to second at about 4900rpm's but itll let me hold off the 2-3 shift until my 6k redline and my tv cable is tight, any way i can get my 1-2 shift to wait till 6k?

Removing the MTV up spring always worked for me but SOME others havent had the same luck. A shift Kit couldent hurt but I like my new improvement better then any SK.

Okay did I miss something????
You are all saying if you put the car in first, it'll still shift to second and third????
I mean I never tried it, but never thought that's what it would do if I did, just figured it would stay in 1st......
My car is still street legal, but I bought it for 1/8 mile drag racing (and have never been happy with the performance I get out of the 700r4, hence why I think I'm switching to a th350 this winter), and we always run it in second cause if we don't it shifts the 3rd at 594 feet and costs me about 0.3sec. Anyone know if putting it in 1st and leaving it there will improve my shift points??
Thanks

Every valve body is different in the respect of holding 1st gear while in 1st and not wanting it to shift. The Trans-Go Performance Shift kit solves this. If you want it to shift at a predetermined rpm at WOT, while leaving the lever in the "D" position?, you would have to work with the governor weights.

There is a kit from B&M for the 700R4 govenor weights... call summit. p/n 20248 about 30 bucks.

You can set your WOT shift points pretty much right where you want them. A lot of trial and error so you'll need to take it to a tranny shop.

alright i dont know what the hell u guys are talking about, because in either a 700R4(4L60) or 4L60E(electronically controlled), if u put the gear selector into 1st gear it should NOT shift out unless you move the gear shifter to 2nd. Its the exact same with 2nd gear, it shouldnt shift on its own. If it is shifting out of first and second, then u have a problem

Most GM valve bodies have this feature, of letting it shift out on its own while in 1st gear. TH350/TH400's do this, and so do 2004R's. 2nd gear in most cases you can take to any rpm, and it will not shift out. This is done for insurance reasons and it keeps you from blowing the motor up, and it keeps the person from accidently going to 1st gear at high speed.
