hmm, one tranny, no regrets..

I've been told: spend some now, or spend more later. how long
do you think reman componets last? secondly, it's like a rebuilt
computer. something failed, and they replaced the failed parts
with factory parts that, guess what, have the SAME FLAW.

they'll eventually fail again.

go here man.. http://www.tciauto.com if you must
have an automatic, drop $1300 down, and get a TCI streetfighter
700-R4 that's built like an iron tank. it's got a slew of little
features and gadgets that most of us car heads might love,
like the ability to manually shift the transmission and have it
respond, instantlly? very nice.

That's what I would get. definitely. expensive as hell, but in
the long run, it's $625 for your reman, and in ~100,000 miles
give or take 40 thousand, it's another $625. that's $1250, plus
you're out labor for both tranny swaps.

Do it right the first time, get something that you can trust. But
hey, don't take my word for gospel, i'm no preacher, if you
believe in reman parts from GM, by all means, go for it, but
only if the warranty extends past 100,000 miles.

good call, see the GM reman. one, i can make 200 dollar payments monthly, seeing how im broke, i cant affoard 1300 plus shipping plus install.

im leaning towards the gm one because, it was done by gm, inspected by gm, has a real warranty. but yeah, a 1300 dollar tranny is pretty much outta the question , i only have the camaro, and cant really affoard to sit around for 3 months and somehow get 1300 bucks.

in any event. those are basicly my only two options. which would you get? i dont see how this guy is shelling out *performance* trannys for 600 bucks. i just dont know who to trust more.

alright, I see your situation. how long is the warranty on the
reman? yes it's a GM tranny, but I stress the fact that these
are not performance transmissions, if it was rebuilt to -factory-
spec, then it's only a short term solution.

If you're leaning towards it because you can make monthly
payments to pay it off, then I'd like to point out the
ability to take out a loan for $1500 to cover purchase and
shipping, low intrest, you'll pay maybe $1700 tops, pay
it off in a year at $125/mo roughly, or pay $200 even a month
get it paid off quickly, improve your credit score, and have
a killer tranny.

but if you absolutely refuse to see my side of it. go for the
reman, a GM reman part will be your best bet over some
rebuilt part over at ebay, for all we know the kid could have
rebuilt it himself, ****ed something up, and is now trying to
get rid of it at a dirt cheap price, hoping no one else will suspect
his mistake. You don't just rebuild a tranny and turn around to
sell it, do you? Especially when the rebuild kit alone is $500+

i mean, the guy has like 10 rebuilt trannys on ebay, and nothing but positive feedback, but i DONT see how a *performance* tranny can be sold for 600..if he was rebuilding them that well, he would be getting 1000. oh, and my credit is uh, NON existant. actually its horrible. and no one will sign for me on a loan.. see where im comming from?? the situation on my current tranny is this. i have a HUGE leak at the front seal, and the tranny is starting to slip going into third. i dont wanna pay to pull the tranny and have a 2 dollar seal fixed, when im gonna have to pull the tranny is 6 months tops, when the rest dies. so im just getting everyones 2 cents before i do anything

six months to live, if it's slipping it's diying. all 700R4's have SOME
slip while changing gears, no more than 50 to 125RPM
is noticeable on the tach.

go with the reman, it's got a warranty. you're good for at least
60k miles.

when i say slipping i mean, its not slipping while in gear, it only slips --stutters-- while going into third...kinda like ...rrrrRRRRRR R R R --shift-- ...i know, hard to describe in words.....its just not shifting as fast at mid rpm...now if im really on the gas it wont slip...maybe my tv just needs adjusting?? i adjusted it a couple times, maybe the last time i got it wrong....its just hard to drive when the tranny is leaking a full quart in like 10 mins.....MASSIVE leak near the TC ....assuming its the front seal....only leaks while the car is running....

don't ever use that car as a get away, all they gotta do is
follow the tranny fluid trail.

I know what you're talking about, it's a little different
than what i'm experiencing, my 700R4 will massivly slip if
I run it hard all the way to shift point, if I keep flooring it
as I shift, it'll slam the tach into redline and I have to
back off of it for two or three seconds to let it shift, if I back
off for a second or so and it gets in gear and I punch it again
it'll break out of gear and slip again.

but that's how I associate the death of the 700R4 is
near, when it slips between shifts while you're riding it
hard. it might be different for everyone, but I don't think
it is, I think they all suffer that major problem after about 100k
miles.
some don't, they're lucky. but doesn't matter how easy you
baby the thing, it'll go given enough time.

I dunno about the TV cable, i'm not really an auto guy, I prefer
to do it the old fashioned way with a hydraulic clutch and shifter.
AFAIK the TV cable tells the transmission if it's basically OK to
shift at this shift point, (stock 700's won't shift at WOT) and
shouldn't effect how long a shift lasts, or whatever happens
during the shift. it's just a throttle detection device.

anyways, like I said, get the reman. you're better with
a warranty anyway you slice it. Ebay stuff is risky.

I have a TCI streetfighter 700. It shifts hard but at way too low of rpm. Im still trying to figure out the problem. It also is remanufactured, just like all the other tci trannys and converters. Getting ahold of their tech. dept. is a whole 'nother task on its own, 2 calls and neither time any answer after 5 minutes of waiting.
