tranny help

i think my 700r4 tranny is on the way out

i cant manually shift it into 1st or 2nd...what would cause this? the tranny also takes a long time to shift when accelerating fast. i also can feel the tranny slipping in 2nd gear alot. does this all mean i should be looking for a new tranny soon?

the tranny is stock, with around 75k miles...it just has a 2200 stall.

It could be the band inside. You might want to have it checked out.

With only 75k on the trans the band going is possible, I'd also check the TV cable; make sure its working correctly, and adjusted. Make sure the fluid isn't burnt and full of metal. All that stuff floating around could hang a valve in the valve body. Also could be the seals on the 2-4 servo. Does the trans flare on 2-3 shift? If not and tv is working maybe try a can of trans x. If the car sat for a long time seals coulda hardened up. This may help extend the time till a rebuild.

Adjust your TV cable and check your fluid level before doing anything extreme...

the tv cable seems to work fine....downshifts the tranny when i feel it should. could it still be out of adjustment?

the tranny has all new fluid and filter. the level is right also. the trans came from a 89 camaro of a good friends. the tranny did not slip when i rode in his car about 4 months ago, when we pulled the tranny out.

what should i check next?

Yes... it does control downshifting but it also maintains line pressure (I believe that's the correct term...) and so-on.. it only takes a minute to adjust, so it can't hurt... :: shrug ::

Yes that's actually a common misconception. Post back and let us know if it helps
