First Post, 700R4 Engine Swap, Need Help
this is my first post....
I have the 700R4 Tranny and some people been tellin' me that I can drop 305-350 pendin if it bolts up. I currently have the 3.1L v6 and a mechanic says there is no v8 that can bolt up to it, then after that he tried to sell me a turbo 350 trans... Would be nice haveing a turbo 350 tranny but if my 700r4 can have a 305 or a 350 then I would rather just stick with that. is there any differences in the 700r4's that came with the v6's and the v8's????
Thanks for the help...

Your mechanic is correct. The bolt pattern on the case is different for the 6-cyl transmissions from the V8 ones. A 6-cyl trans will not bolt to a V8 engine.
However, if you're unfamiliar enough with the whole situation that you don't know even that basic level of compatibility, I would not recommend trying to swap in a transmission that fits the other engine but doesn't fit the car, and then have to take care of all those details which are considerably more arcane.
Sounds to me like the best thing to do in your case would be to follow the easiest possible 6-cyl to V8 swap, accomplished in 2 easy steps:
1. Sell the 6-cylinder car
2. Buy a V8 car
It will cost you far less, cause you less trouble, avoids possibilities for error, and you won't have near the down time.

I read many forums about how 3.1l out before the 3.4l due to more torque, but finding headers for the 3.1 is near impossible, I either I to find the discontinued heddmen headers which are rare, or find someone who can custom make the headers, which I have heard about.
I been lookin' around and gettin' info on about engines that I can. Bought a 91 RS with the 3.1L in it a few months ago and it has over 130000miles on it, not sure weither to rebuild it or go pull another engine "bigger than the 3.1" out of the junk yard, and that mechanic also told me I could drop the 3.4 in it, and that he had one he could sell me, but since that doesn't look like that is just goig to bolt up, another v6 would do me fine...
