*CABLE-X* Installed w/T56--- I LOVE IT!

I just got my Cable-X installed, and it works great. It seems to be very accurate, and is very easy to install and setup. Abbott Enterprises has great tech. support also. I posted here b/c anyone doing a T-56 swap that has a cable drive speedo should definately get one. The car runs much better with the speedo hooked up.

I bet the speedo doesn't bounce up and down like mine does.

you can have it converted from mechanical to electric I believe. I've heard about it but never saw a product for it.

When I first completed the T56 swap I got an SES light and IIRC it was a code 24 which was a VSS code. Also when coming to a stop or pushing the clutch in while trying to slow down suddenly the car would die. I was told this was b/c the computer didn't know how fast I was going or when I was stopping, so it couldn't operate things properly like opening the Idle Air Control Valve. I don't know if that is all true w/ the Idle Air and all, but it fixed my SES light and it no longer dies on me at all. It just seems much more driveable. And no it doesn't bounce at all, but old cable setup sure did.

What kind of tranmission are you running. If it's a T5 or 700R4 I believe you can change the tailshaft for one setup for an electronic VSS.

Please help: Cable-X electrical hookup

StocRoc (or anyone else in-the-know),

I'm trying to install my Cable-X box now that I've completed the T-56 swap. I'd like some advice on connecting to the 2-pin VSS connector from the side of the tranny to the Cable-X box.

Q1: Where do the 2 wires from the VSS connector on the tranny connect? Is one of them ground and the other the signal?

Q2: Which one is which, or does it matter?

Q3: The manual indicates that one line is powered (purple) and goes to the ECM, but I'm driving an '82 T/A w/ no ECM input and no VSS buffer box. I simply bought the connector from the dealer for the VSS output at the tailshaft of the tranny, and it has two flying leads. Therefore I suspect I DON'T power either of the two lines to the VSS connector, correct?

Q4: I see in the Cable-X wiring diagram that the ground must be common w/ the VSS sensor and then the signal output from the VSS sensor connects into the Cable-X white wire. But, if I don't apply any power to the VSS sensor, does it still trigger pulses out on the white wire?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom. I'm anxious to get the speedo working so I can get the emissions test done.

Thanks!
--Mike

Where in Kansas you from StocRoc? I too used a cable x box on my 88 iroc that has a t56 in it. I didn't have drivability problems as far as it dying, but I did have that annoying ses light on all the time and it did seem to run better in general after I got the speedo working.

who much are these running? I will hopefully be switching soon. Why does it need to go to the ECM when it reads from the speedo?

Thanks

Chris

The cable x boxes are about $350 IIRC. Its just a simple 3 wire operation. Power, ground and something else I do believe, I don't remember wiring it to the ecm at all, I could be wrong though, its been awhile.
