Rear end swap?

Ok been doing some research on rear ends. I am unfornatly stuck with a9 bolt Borg warner rear end in my Iroc - Z with ***** 2.77's There is no aftermarket for this rear end! And the little that there is is expensive. So I wanted to know if a 4th gen like 95 or 96 rear end will swap in. I wanted to get the posi rear with 323 facotry. They are 10 bolts in the 4th gens right?

Input please!

Justin

Can't help ya with the 4th Gen, but there is a member who sells BW 9-bolt gears, carriers, etc.

Think his name is miles427...something like that.

Search on the Drivetrain forum for him.

I too was once cursed with a BW 9 bolt with 2.77's, although it wasn't really a curse to have the rearend, just that ratio of gears. I swapped it out for a Moser 9" with 3.70's that I eventually sold because I hated it and bought a 96 model rear from a Camaro Z28 for $250. The 96 rear also cursed me with 2.73 gears which I just replaced this past weekend with 4.10's. But the good thing about it is that it bolted up perfectly with absolutely no modifications whatsoever other than changing a brake line(the one that runs from the rear to the body). The e-brake cables even worked perfect(though I had disk brakes on the 9 bolt.). If i'm not mistaken if you already have disk brakes and get a rear from a 93-96 4th gen the e-brake cables will work...Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

You're wrong, but I wish you were right.
My 86 9bolt disc e-brake cables are different. Didn't hook up to the 95 brakes.

Zepher,
Didnt the 89 use the PBR brakes vs the 86 having the non PBRs?

Yep, that is the difference I believe.
88 and earlier disc Calipers sat on opposite sides of the wheel and the 89+ had them sitting on the back side of the wheel, I believe.

Stuck with a 9 bolt. You could be happier then a pig in mud to have a 9 bolt. The 2.77's are somewhat of a curse but the 9 bolt, yet hard to find is a hell of alot stronger then a 10 bolt. 9bolt.com will have everything you need. Will probably cost around $800 to swap in the 3 series carrier but will be worth it in the long run. This is what I have to do, not really happy to have the 2.77's but if life gives you a 9 bolt, build her up.

Although the 9-bolt is stronger, unless your running hella-horsepower, the 10-bolt will be just fine. I just finished swaping in an 88 rear with 3.42 gears. All factory setup, just bolted in, changed the vehicle speed sensor, and had fun.
