NO shift WOT, only after let off gas a bit.

1987 iroc..700r4

I talked to a couple tranny guys, of course they are tryin to talk me into a complete rebuild $$$

its not the governor, and not sure if its the throtte valve? (is that right)

said 185 bucks to check/ fix that...and it could go bad again w/ out a complete rebuild.

I drive the car everyday..shifts fine when im not "racing it" or in a hurry...but when i even give it 1/2 or more pedel it needs to be let off, then it shifts like im in a manual vehicle..

weird:lala:

Reset the TV cable adjustment. If that doesn't do it, after resetting the cable lengthen the cable at the adjustor 1 notch and try that, if it still messes up, try one more notch lenghtened.

Which shift is it, that does not occur till you let off the throttle?

I'm betting it is in all gears when the accelerator is pressed down past 1/2. I went through this with my trans after the rebuild and new engine install. I ended up adjusting the TV cable out 2 notches from where it set itself to when going through the GM proceedure.

Doesnt the govenor have something to do with shift points? The TV valve serves as the modulator right? Was this tranny recently rebuilt or did someone install a shift kit???

Did they check the valve body? Is it bad? Warped? Are the bolts tightened to proper torque?

Typically caused by excessive clearance in the 3-4 clutch pack, either from wear or poor assembly.

Adjust the TV cable the way it's supposed to be, or you'll hasten your appearance at the tranny shop door.

Yes, still waiting to fix mine.

valve body

valve body was not checked...have to open her up to check that...

said $185 if it was that and it may only fix it fer a bit if its not it, not knowing without going through the entire tranny.

I don't trust mechanics that much either.

I'd have to be watching them the entire time.

Get a manual book, and try doing some of it yourself.

with the 400 in my old camaro, i went thru several trannys (its easier and cheaper to throw in a $50 junkyard tranny with a shift kit several times then it is to spend money on a new rebuild..... i was broke anyway )

it always did that right before the tranny went out..

if you want it to shift, you can do this...

floor it until you're ready to shift..
quickly lift past half throttle
mash the gas back down again..

it will shift, but its horrably abuseive to the tranny and you are really accelerating the wear on it. its terrible for it, so be aware that if you do that, you ARE abusing it and that WILL break it.

but i will let you mess around with that tranny in the car for a little while...

after messing with the tv cable thingy shes started shifting right on redline... (had to adjust it myseld over and over)

got to test it out on a rx7 last night to lol

one thing though...

im not sure exactly what gears i have in the rear 3.23s? but in between shifts crusing it just hangs at 3-3500, is that because of the gears or because something is up w/ OD?

Dustin, I just had the same problem with my 92 Formula 700R4. Have someone at a performance center or a reputable tranny shop that does race jobs put a pressure gauge on your tranny, and go drive it. I was told it was my TV cable also, but it was not the case. I had some cross leaking happening in the tranny causing a drop in line pressure which would not allow the tranny to shift. Anyway, the leakage in mine was bad enough that I paid for a complete race rebuild, including a Superior HD shift kit, they work better in a 700R4 than a transgo, and a Corvette converter with a cut stator. I still have the same TV cable on the car, and the car is hitting so hard that the cable had to be backed off. Depending on what type street I'm on, I can bark the tires going into 3rd gear. Hope this helps!
