I need a new Transmission Mount but I really don’t want to deal with a vibration problem that I’ve heard from a lot of people using ES or Poly so I figured why not use a 1LE tranny mount.
Has anyone used on of them before ??

1 LE Transmission Mount

GM Part # is 22146231

Thanks for your help

I personally wouldn't bother with it, I'd use the poly mount. The 1LE is no less prone to break than the other, it's just slightly less flexible rubber.

If I use a poly mount, is there a way without having vibration problems ?

I've been running a 1LE trans mount for 3 years now, no complaints and it hasn't broken yet. I agree the aftermarket poly-ury pieces are stouter and designed not to come apart, the lack of "give" concerned me. I'm running GM rubber engine mounts, so tightening up my trans without doing same for the engine is problematic.

If you go poly, I'd go poly at both engine and trans. Personally I don't mind a bit of "give" at the mounts...when you take this away, something else has to "give".

i dont have to much vibration from my prothane tranny mount, it still seems to flex alittle but is very tight compared to the stock rubber one.

the 1le mount is susceptible to the elements. ie oil etc.... poly on the other hand is not. the poly will out last the rubber mount.

l love my poly mount and the fact that i don't have to change it anymore. check and make sure your motor mounts are in good shape and not broken. this will cause broken tranny mounts.

i never noticed any either...

honestly i think thats mostly a myth...... i mean logicly, sure you should feel more, its stiffer right?

but when you leave the bench racing world and get back to the real world, you find tons of people that have done the swap without more vibes...

That's because you've been lucky. I've torn up two new rubber mounts about a month apart. I went to an ES poly mount and now I get strong vibration feedback under hard excelleration in 1st and 2nd gears. I've heard of some guys using stock rubber mounts from ls1 cars. They're supposed to be bigger. I may try that next...

**edit** gd, i just noticed the last post was over a year ago...

lol thats ok.

and its not that ive been lucky.

you just have a problem.

the problem isnt the rubber mounts..... obviously you have some other problem causing the mount to be overstressed, and that makes the mount fail.
you shouldnt be going thru 2 rubber mounts in a month.

i would start by checking if the TQ arm can slide thru its bushing and by checking if your motormounts allow excessive engine movement.

you have a problem that was overstressing the trans mount. what you just did was mount it more solidly. there is now more force going thru your tailshaft.... if its strong enough, fine... but honestly, i would find and fix the true problem, because if it can break a stock mount in a month, it could break your tailshaft if given enough time.

I have a 1LE car and I did notice the mount was different than the norm. I took a quick peek last fall and it looked to me as if it was designed not to break right apart as the stock ones do. Other than that it looked like nothing special. I run a urethane mount on my driver and I did notice quite a bit more vibes through it than stock. Especially at idle you can feel them cam lumpiness shake the car more. I am used to it now and it has never failed in the five years I have been using it and it still looks like new

I recently changed wheels and tires. I now have much more traction than I had before. I agree that the tranny mount was being overstressed and I assumed it was because of increased traction. The only other things I've done to the rear suspension is to box my lca's and panhard bar. I replaced the bushings in the lca's with new rubber ones.

I ended up replacing my trans mount with a standard replacement from Autozone... 3 hours later it was broke again. However, the fault was that the mounting plate that connects to the trans just came unglued from the rubber mount. I mean, it was a perfectly clean break.

Sooooo.... I got a poly one instead. Seems to run better but it also transfers a small bit of vibration under 20 MPH. AFter that it is smooth.

I may go back to a rubber mount if I can find a better design than the one that AZ had.
