I may have an opportunity to buy an 88 RS/Sport Coupe with a 2.8 and a T5.

Is the T5 that is put in the V6 cars the same as the V8 cars?

I'm pondering the idea of swapping out the 700R4 in my IROC with a T5.

If it is the same tranny, is there anything I might need off a V8 car that I won't be able to use off the V6 car?

 

If you're willing to take tranny apart and swap in a V8 input shaft then you'll be good to go. OR you can go the custom clutch disk route.

 

Odyssey, what is your 1/4 mile times. Also, what size gear you have. Just building a similiar motor and was wondering possibly what would it run. Thanks..

 

I got the stock 3:23s. I have a daily driven car, not a car setup for drag racing. Last time I ran it, it did a 11.8@118mph... This was with my built automatic. The T5 would never survive a launch required to get that time. lol

 

u will need to change quiite a bitt the bellhousings r different on the 6 cyl to a 8 cyl cluth releases r different maual to hydroand some others i cant think of now

BUTTTTTT!!!!!
when i blew up my v8 t5 i couldnt' find one anywhere!!!! wc/nwc neither of them,, they were only available in the 3rd gen fbodies,, and honestly,, how many standard v8 3rd gen f bodies have u seen i'd have to guess about 10 percent,, not like the 6speed 4th gens, closer to 50 percent, go with the 4/6 cyl one, u can get them out of blazers and i think a couple others, plus, i think a v8 nwc will blow up just as fast!
