Centerforce throw out bearing
Do I need the centerforce throwout bearing for their clutches? When I ordered it, jegs.com said it was a required part, I was comparing it to my old pressure plate, and the centerforce slpine opening is a little larger but the stock replacement throwout bearign still fits on it? does anyone have any expierience with this?

Any throwout bearing that's the right part # will work. It has to be the short one. If you use the long one or the medium one, the clutch won't engage all the way, because the throwout will reach the clucth gear bearing retainer before the diaphragm is fully returned.
DON'T reuse your old one; that's just asking for trouble.

Yeah, I didnt plan on reusing the old one at all, I was just going to goto the parts store and pick up a replacement one. When I go there and tell them what I am looking for, will they give me a choice in length or were all the stock ones the same? I am assuming there wouldnt be any sort of difference becasue the trans is from an 88 and the car its going in is a 91?

This is a Centerforce bearing.
The one you want has the lowest possible "shoulder", the area circled in the pic. There are 3 heights; the tallest is REALLY tall at that spot, like about ¾" tall; the medium is just a little taller than this one, less than twice as tall as the one in the pic. Print the pic and take it to the store and compare. For a cataolg listing that should get you the right one, look up a 69 Chevelle SS396 4-speed.

Its a BCA bearing number, anyplace that carries BCA bearings can get you the right part number, and cheaper than you can get it from centerforce

Confirm this though. Go to your local Parts jobber and ask what the BCA number is for an 82 through 92 Camaro T\O bearing. The Centerforce bearing is just a stock Bearing repackaged as mentioned.
