3 speed 700r4?

well, i got into a little arguement with a friend, he said his friend has an 86 iroc with a 3 speed 700r4?

did they ever make these? i thought the whole point of the 700r4 was to have overdrive? the way he counts gears is odd too, sometimes overdrive is a gear, sometimes its not..... i dunno, hes unique.... o yeah forgot to add he works at a trans shop

well, ALL Th700s are 4 speed automatics. With the shifter in "D" then the car will only use 3 gears, 4th (overdrive) will only be active when the shifter is in "OD". He might be talking about a TH350 or TH400 which are 3 speed autos (no OD), or really doesnt know what he is talking about.

i guess hes thinking like the 4+3 trans? like over drive is just added on? the 700 is a 4spd thats for sure. He might think that the 0D is just something added? I have worked with mechanics... even though they work on cars.. most still dont know crap.

He's an idiot. Nod approvingly, suppress your laughter, and move on. There's no sense in arguing with somebody that uninformed.

Amen, never ever argue with idiots.

I once made the mistake of going to a Vauxhall dealer to try and find an oil cap that fitted my third gen. Not a bad assumption given that Vauxhalls are GM and I have found that things like fuel caps work.

Well, the guy at the shop first told me that Vauxhall never sold Camaros in the UK (they sold 4 gens for a few years) then proceeded to tell me that I should go to Jeep because Jeep was GM and Vauxhall wasn't... I just walked straight out of the dealership and left him there before he could finish telling me how he figured that DaimlerChrysler was General Motors.

PS: Yeah, I live in Europe.
