Replacing 700R4 with T5

Replacing 700R4 with T5

I've been reading some back posts, using search and read a few tech pages about T5 swaps. But no 2 are the same... What gives? Also I have a few questions, hydraulic vs. mechanical clutches? Whats the real difference here, and whats better to have? Will the same starter fit a 700R4 and a T5? I belive the drive shaft and cross member will fit both, but what about the tourq arm? Will I have to change anything with the brake system other than the pedal? What are some of the things that should be replaced rather then reused from the doner car?
Thats all I've got for right now, I know most of this stuff is in the Tech Articles on this site, but I've seen a few that say different.. So I just want to be sure.

Axle/Gears: Got those too...
The hydraulic clutch assembly will certainly make your life easier- you don't have to screw around with mechanical linkage, and for all intents and purposes it is self adjusting.

The starter on a T-5 equipped car has a smaller nose piece than a standard size Chevy starter which is what I believe an auto car has. You will need a T-5 starter, or just buy a high torque mini starter from Summit.

You should not have to change anything with the brakes except your pedal setup.

Don't know for sure about the torque arm or drive shaft. I believe they are all the same.

Okay here are the answeres you are looking for, I just got done doing the swap my self. I used this tech article which was pretty good... http://www.thirdgenresource.com/auto...ual_conversion

1. You defiantely want the hydrolic assembly it is easier to find and works a hell of alot easier than the manual stuff.

2. Your starter should be fine, I had no problems reusing mine at all.

3. Driveshaft is the same, crossmember is the same, you will need a tranny mount for a t-5 tho, the tourqe arm is the same, but the braket that bolts to the transmission to hold it is different so you need to get one off of a t-5, the bushings are the same tho.

4. You dotn need to do anything to the brake system it all remains the same, the brake booster does have to come off tho to get the master cylinder through the firewall, refer to the tech article.

5. Get the following things from the donor car...
transmission/bell housing
clutch fork
fly wheel
tourque arm mount & catalytic converter hanger
Hyrdolic clutch ***. also get the heat shield that bolts over it
Pedal assembly
Shifter & interior 5speed shifter plate/****
