Rearend...

Hi, I have a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro which currently has a slightly modified 305 in it... I am Squeezing out about 250 hp, but I am still not satisfied... so I am currently building a 383 stroker... Fully modified... AFR heads, etc... Very nice!... My car currently has the stock 7.5" Limited Slip rear in it... now... I am just Guessing, but won't the torque from the 383 pretty much split the carrier in half??? I am also gonna be spraying on the motor too... and I expect to have pretty good traction... now my question is,I have a chance to get a built up 10-bolt from a 1994 z28 which had an LT1 in it... it had an auto tranny, etc... the old motor was making 500hp at the wheels with this rear, and it gripped Excellent in the z28... he ran (Maybe) 4 times with this rear after it was built, and this was just in the 1/8'th mile... the car was going over a bridge and cought some air and slammed face first into the guard rail at speed... I have inspected the entire rear and all and it is OK... It has Wilwood Disk Brakes on it, it has 3.73 gears, with an Eaton Posi Unit, and Moser Axles... Because the guy was my friend he is only charging me $500 for the entire rear... disks and all... and he is getting rid of it so cheap because his wife is having a baby and they need the money... I was wondering if this would be worth $500...(I think so)... and will I have to get a custom driveshaft to fit the Rear into my 84....

Thanks for any help....

Yeah, it is worth $500, at least until it blows, then you know you need a 12-bolt or 9". The stock driveshaft will work, but you shoudl replace the u-joints anyway and might want to have it balanced. Personally, i wouldn't take any chances with the drivetrain, I'd get a custom driveshaft made. I get my custom driveshaft next week.

Well I was planning on using the driveshaft from the 84 for the z28 rear... that way I know it is balanced, because I drive the car quite often...

I would make sure to get a driveshaft loop too though.
