Well... your 3/4 clutch pack might be slipping a little. Altho when clutch packs go they usually go completely... Thats one thing to look into tho.

Haha its ok. The clutches are in these like, packs. Hence, clutch packs. 1 & 2 share a pack, and 3 & 4 share another. If the 3 & 4 clutch pack is starting to go, you might gradually see the same speed (say... 80mph) being held with more RPMs as time goes on until one day you're on the highway and "WAAAAAAHHHHHH" your rpms rocket and the car feels like it is in neutral. Thats a burnt up clutch pack, it is not grabbing anymore and allowing the engine to whine out...This may not be your problem, but you should check it out.

New clutch packs and bands can run a couple hundred.

I take it this is according to your factory tach....

Check the accuracy of your dash trim package against a piece of test equipment before you get all excited about needing trans work. Any tune-up type place would have a sufficiently accurate real tach.

Make sure your trans is going into the right gear; i.e. shifting all the way up into OD, and the converter clutch is locking up.... yuo should feel 4 shift-like events as the car accelerates from a standstill to cruise; 3 gear shifts, and the clutch lock-up.

1 & 2 share a pack
OMG, let me get Hydramatic on the phone right away and tell them they have been teaching us wrong all these years!!!!!

For future reference, all foward gears use the foward clutch. 2nd gear and 4th gear share the one and only band in the transmission. 3&4 share the same clutch pack. There is no "1-2 clutch".
