stronger rear
i have a 1984 z28 with a open diff rear end. i'm going to be putting in a 350hp 350 and i'm guessing i need something stronger. i'm only 16 and don't have much money so i need to find out the cheapest way to upgrade it. did the newer 3rd gens come with stronger rear ends that would hold up to it? its not going to have a ton of traction, just a posi hopefully and 225s or 245s. any ideas?

try and find a 9 bolt from an iroc with rear disc brakes....they are stronger than the 10 bolt.....and you should be able to get one pretty cheap at a junkyard....theres tons of them up here

the 28 spline axles came on 89 and newer cars right? would it be good if i got one out of a 90-92 v6 car? didn't they have at least 3.23s to make up for less engine power? besides, a v8 camaro is pretty hard to find in the yards.
how much would you pay for one out of a junk yard? they want from $350-500 for a rear around here.

wish it were like that here, most have like 5, maybe 2 or 3 v8s out of all of them. yesterday i did find an LT1 in a 96 caprice they want $650 for, never see one of them in a junk yard before. once i found an 87 camaro with a 350 that was all tore up(only 350 3rd gen i've seen in a yard), and they wanted $700 for the whole car. the junk yards definitaly suck around here. at least 3rd gens arn't too rare on the streets here, you can get a fairly decent one for 700-800.

jacks is the junkyard of choice for 3rd gen parts.....
i put in a moser 12 bolt with ford housing ends, and to do that you need to use the disc brakes for a 3rd gen rear.....and i had drums....
i got the backing plates, the calipers, the hardware and the rotors for 100 bucks lol
