How to tell a T5
I'm going up to a boneyard today and plan on looking around for a T5, but won't purchase it today, probably next week if i find a good one. But i want to know how i will know one from another transmission. Also, what years were those available in?
i'm guessing you have a f body. you'd want one from a f body and really should try to be same year. the parts yard can look it up in an interchange book and tell you exactily what years will fit your application.

Get the newest one you can find. Some of the older ones aren't WC and are significantly weaker. Also, get one from a V8, because the V6 one won't bolt in due to a different input shaft.
If it's in an F-body and it has an aluminum case, it's a T5.

The world class T5s are the ones to use. They switched from individual roller bearings to caged roller bearings, and tappered roller bearings, which are much stronger.
