will a 89 700r4 work in a 91 z28?
hello, will a 1989 700r4 work in a 91 z28? i think the 89 has a cable speedometer, and the 91 has an electric speedometer. will i have to swap rear tailshafts? anybody know what all is involved? thanks, tom

Transmission: T56, 5-speed, 700R4, C4, T176, semi-auto 2-speed
Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
If the trans is from an '89 Camaro then it is a mechanical drive. If it's from a Firebird it's electric. Your '91 is electric. Just swap the tailshaft housing and the speedo gear on the tailshaft of you trans onto the new one and you're good to go.

700-R4 truck tailhousings are bare. B/D have a mount provision on the underside. Y are weird (as are some owners of same.) F are setup for a tq. arm.
Everything else should be cool as long as they're both Chevrolet pattern (and not from a V6 for example.)
