Want to put electric speedo in...
Hey guys i want to convert my whole dash over to Autometer Ultra lite gauges and want to put a 120mph electric speedo in. now since my car has a cable, how hard is it goin to be to put the electric set up in? Autometer sells the adapotor kit thingy to convert from the cable on thetranny to electric, but im not sure how well it will work or if it will work. i also have a th350 tranny just incase anyone needs to know.
so has anyone done this and gotten good/great results?

If you want to go straight electric, you could use a late (TH350-C) tailhousing (it uses the same sealing o-ring location as the 700-R4,) a 700-R4 (like a 1991 third gen) electric VSS (which is still gear driven) and run the wiring from the tailhousing to your dash. Depending on what access you have to salvage yards, this could be easy.
That's certainly not the only way to do it, but I thought I'd throw out that approach.

The Autometer sender works great. I ran one in the M21 in my old Nova for a while. It's the same part for your TH350 I think.
The Autometer speedo isn't designed to read of a 3rd gen VSS, so if you use stock 3rd gen VSS you'll need a buffer box. It's cheaper to just use the Autometer sender.

That's right. Everything else is wiring.

The best advice I can give is solder all your connections, and then shrink tube them, or use the self bonding tape like the stuff Edelbrock sells.
Crimp connectors are easy, but can vibrate loose over time, and are also prone to corrosion. Also, most commercially available crimping pliers have the wrong dies. They just crimp the connector into an oval. This isn't the right way to crimp them!
