Need help measuring my 9"

I baught my car with a 9" in it and I want to know the proper way to measure it to see if it is stock width. That leads me to my next question, what is stock width? SHould I measure the axle housing or to the drum ends?

id measure from the flat part where the inside of the rim touches to the same flat part on the other side...

then do the same for a stock 3rdgen rear.
