Ls1 Vs Lt1 Drive Shaft

I am about to purchase a new aluminum driveshaft for my sickly bird. I have the choice between an LS1 shaft and an LT1 shaft. They both sell for around $220. So what do you think.

Get an LS1 driveshaft. You can find them on ebay and the boards for really cheap (100-200). They aren't steel like the LT1's and are extremely light and can withstand serious power levels before they fail. They are also balanced very well. The LS1 shaft is one GM part that is almost better than the aftermarket stuff. There isn't anything special about an LT1 shaft and I cannot wait to get rid of mine and go with an LS1 shaft in my 95.

LS1 hands down, its bigger in diameter, lighter and has a harmonic dampener.

Definatley grab it if its below 150 for it, if not, go to www.car-parts.com, I picked mine up from one of the yards on there for only 110.

That is right unless any year 3rd, or 4th gen was equiped with a 1LE shaft. The LS1 shafts are actually lighter. They are really that good.

And I guess I can just take a magnet with me and see if it sticks? That would probably be the easiest to tell, right?
That would work and the LS1 shafts are 3" diameter (larger than yours) and have a greyish hue to them. If it is out of an LS1 car you are garanteed it is an LS1 shaft. The only exception are a few 2.73 rear auto cars that got a steel shaft. But if it is out of a T-56 car you are set. The driveshaft would be a good idea with 3.73 gears because your shaft is going to be spinning at a lot higher rate than it did before with the old gears. Therefore vibrations you felt at high speeds will now be felt at lower speeds.
