Tonight I was out cruisin' and I started gettin on it a bit. I put my auto 700R4 into first and got on it. I manually shifted from 1st to 2nd and it was a nice, firm shift. Then I shifted from 2nd to 3rd and I heard a loud POP and now the tranny won't engage any gear except for REVERSE. What did I do??? Is it going to be really expensive to fix??? I will literally be bankrupt if I have to rebuild the tranny.
The funny thing is, I recently rebuilt the tranny (2 summers ago). I had a warranty on it but it has long expired. The tranny only has about 15,000 miles on it.
The only think that I think I might've done wrong is probably keeping my foot on the gas through the shifts. But even then, I've always done that and there was never a problem.
PLEASE HELP!! I am home on spring break and I only have a week to fix this before I have to go off to school again!!!!

A "hard" part in the transmission has busted and probably sent metal bits through everything

It could be also be your forward clutch. If you burn that up you will have no forward gears and reverse. Could even be your sprag.
Go check and see what your tranny fluid looks like, and smells like.

i no the feeling man! i have mine in the shop right now getting it rebuild its costing me 550$ canadian, but i lost 3rd and my car turning into a dog, had like acceleration. i think the 1 year warrenty is BS to, y only 1 year!!anyway good luck man!
Time for a Pro-built.
Well it turns out that my uncle is looking to build me a TH350. He is a trans guy with 20+ years of experience (although mostly with FORD). He built a TH350 for one of his friends with a 400+ HP Monte Carlo and the thing can't be broken.
But my question is, how much HP is a stock/rebuilt 700R4 supposed to be able to handle??? I've heard that a stock can take up to 400HP. I refuse to believe that my new motor is pushing that, but would be a really nice suprise....

Theres alot of things that determine how much power a trans can handle. The most important being traction. You could put 1000hp to a 700 but if your tires dont hook itll spin the tires all day no problem. A stiff drivshaft has the same effect. Another thing is the quality of the rebuild. You only get that one year warrnety because thats about as long as it should last. They dont care about quality at trans shops. Just quantity. Dont beat on a rebuilt and expect it to last like the original.
