need t-5 info

Can anyone tell me what to look for to make sure the trans I`m about to buy is off a v-8 and not a six, I`ve heard they differ in the torque rating, If the tag numbers are the only way how do I decode those numbers?

I don`t have the tag numbers yet but it`s from a 95 camaro, that`s all I know at this point, Thanks for the tag numbers If it happens to be one of those #`s can I assume it isn`t from a 95

If the tag starts with 1352, it's a T5. If it's out of a 93 or newer Camaro, it's from a V6. There is no 93-up V8 T5 in f-bodies.

what type of 5 speed came behind a lt1 in a 95 camaro then?
it`s starting to sound like I would have been getting duked, cause he told me it`s a t-5 from a 95 camaro

Lemme rephrase myself.

There is no 93-up V8 5 speed in f-bodies.

1993 - 2002 V8 f-bodies got 6 speeds.

Is the 6 cyl 95 t-5 a world class? and is it the same torque rating as a third gen v-8? this guy is telling me it`s an lt1 car ,then I`ll be getting a t-56 with 30,000 for 50.00! If it is the t-5 it`s still a good deal if I can use behind a v-8, right?

3rd gen T5s from V6s can be easily identified by the input shaft. If the shaft has 26 splines and is 1.125" in diamter it's a V8 T5. If not it's from a V6, which uses a metric dimensioned input shaft.

As stated, anything '93 and newer behind a V8 is a T56 six speed. If you can get one of those for $50 buy it!

A good WC T5 is pretty strong. Traction and powershifts are the biggest killer of T5s. If those are in the plans, then a T56 would be a much better choice.

Yes.

No.

He's wrong if it's a 5spd.

It's worth 500$ minimum if in working order, so... good catch.

Honestly, i'd stick to the V8 T5s.

I think you should compare tq. ratings of third gen V8 T5s to the 4th gen V6 T5s before proceeding.

Also, research the input shaft spline count on the V6 T5s. I would assume that the 4th gen V6 T5s have the same spline count as thirdgen, which is around 14 (I think)...
