700R4 Lockup torque converter help, now i need it people...

Ok, so im swappin out the old tired 5.7 tpi to a carbed 350 pushing around 400 horse, but im reusing the 700 cuz i like the overdrive but i ripped out the harness for the tranny since it was on the ECM loop, thats for the lockup torque converter right, thats what i think, so what do i do to fix this, is there a kit that makes it lock up or do i just get a non lockup torque convereter...

I dont care what way i fix it, as long as i get it done....

Kit available from Summit or Jegs.

Not sure it includes the pieces to replace the harness you cut.

If you look in jegs or summit they make pressure switches that you install into the transmission making a ground and locking the torque converter up. I am not sure how they install but I believe they replace a circuit that use to run to the computer.

The bracket he's talking about could be none other than the TV cable to hook up to your carb linkage. This controls the shift points/pressure in the 700R4. Without the cable hooked up, you're gonna have some problems.

lol problem solved. i went with lokar kick down and throttle cables. lokar also makes a special bracket specificly for their kick down and throttle cables to adapt to TPI or carbed systems. VERY nice stuff if your willing to pay for it. nothing like polished stainless lines

Haha without that bracket your going to have about 600 dollars worth of problems when the tranny goes.

A rebuilt one anyway, but I wouldn't trust a 700R4 rebuild that only cost $600.

you can buy a brand new 700 built to take a beating for 800-1200 range. can handle 600+ HP and TQ. no point in getting your old one rebuilt for the money it costs

i bought mine from transmission.net they sell it and it's only $32.

I have switched to a turbo 350 and have my whole trans for sale including the lock-up from 700r-4.com and the proper throttle cable. My trans is a perfectly good working vette trans that has high mileage on it. I want $150 for all of it, but i will not ship it.

Mike

Anyone local to Sb , Indiana interseted ?

Are you guys talking about the bracket for the TV cable connecting to the carb? That is an easy one. Some people just drill a hole in the throttle linkage and hook it up there. However, the geometrics are not the same. The correct way to do it is to buy a TV cable corrector for your carb. They are available for about $7 at any automotive parts store. There are usually just the two kits, one for Holley, the other for Edelbrock.

it's gone. I gave it to the local trans shop. I don't like stuff sitting around in the garage.

sorry

BTW it worked perfectly but had 135K miles on it, may have worked forever, may have broke tomorrow, that's why i put in a new turbo 350. Trans and converter cost the same as the rebuild on the 700
