How much for a rebuild?
--In my 91 Z28 700R4--
Right now, 1-2 gear shift is VERY quick (almost too quick). 2-3 shift takes FOREVER. 3-OD is decent.
When warmed up, though, 1-2 is a little slower, 2-3 is a little quicker, and 3-OD is about the same.
Anything sound familiar? Just a general rebuild needed?

mine is doing the exact same thing. there is a guy up here that will rebuild to race specs for about $1200 and then i have talked to a guy that has a friend that he told me would probably rebuild the tranny to top notch condition for about $825

Sounds cool.
My parents take their vehicles with transmission problems to a shop in Weatherford to do repairs. I think they want like 750 bucks or so for a rebuild.
I plan on keeping this car completely stock, so I dont need something that supports 600+ horsepower or anything. Just as long as it shifts quick and easy, like my truck (which is electronic... so I can turn off in the middle of driving it if I please), then I would be happy. But the 2-3 gear shift is just annoying (and sometimes scary).

i know what you mean. my 2-3 shift revs up quite a ways before actually shifting. i think the reason for this is that the 2-3 clutch pak is shot, which is the reason i am probably going to be rebuilding soon.

for less then 1k you can buy a brand new 700 built to take a beating. 700r4.com has 4 different stage trannies. i would just buy a new one

I have $800 in parts alone into my 700R4. I rebuilt it myself. It was the first time I had ever opened up an auto tranny. Wasn't too bad. If you have a garage, time, and mechanical ability, it will save you some cash to do it yourself. I found that it was more of a PITA to remove/replace the tranny from the car than to rebuild it.

I got creative when i put the transgo kit in mine (with good help mind you) and added the vette servo and increased boost valve, all new clutch paks from a new envoy wreck, better bands, etc, etc, the whole thing was less than $1600 canadian with $ to the guy that did the work, tranny was out for awhile tho
Works great and i know everything in it, how it was done and was fun finding all the parts and getting just what i wanted
just my .02
Love the shifts now, how many stockish LG4s chirp the tires into 2nd gear? tranny cooler on the way ASAP!

Thanks for the insight dudes. Like I said though Im not looking for a hot roddin transmission. Just something close to stock, but of course with quicker shifting.

like i said before, your best bet is to buy one new. rebuilds cost hundreds anyhow. now if you go adding parts they cost more. all the new stuff has all the things to make your tranny shift better plus more. so down the road from now if you feel like making more power, you dont have to worry about the tranny. you could pick up a nicely built tranny for around 900 and shipping will be like 200? thats 1100. most places build trannys for that amount or more

They are awesome. I have never messed with transmissions before so I had a lot of stupid questions for Dana before I ordered the transmission from him. He took the time to answer them without out a problem. Spend the extra money and get the best. You may be paying more but you will be getting a lot more for your money.

I don't think he installs them but you can get one from him. I recommend calling Midwest Converters and get one from them.

I just got an "Edge" 9.5 lockup with 2800 stall installed along with the new Probuilt Road Race Transmission. I like the way the converter works. Way better than I thought it would be with that high of a stall. It was $550 including shipping from the midwest to California. (The office is in California but the manufacturing plant in in Indiana???)

overkill sounds good to me. might as well get a th400 from monster, then youll need a spohn torque arm/crossmember, might as well get a 12 bolt or 9 inch while youre back there, do all the suspension, then you need a big block up front. no wonder im so poor
If you think these TC's are overpriced (P.I.'s Vigilante) go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=tech and read the article on TC's.
