700R4 shift problem
well today I started my car and started out like evryday before. I was driving down a road about 45MPH and for some reason the car wouldn't go into any gear higher than 2nd. I immediatly turned around and headed for home, broke open the hayes manuel for TV cable adjustment. I followed the precedure they discribed with no fix. In fact the book says the adjuster is suppoed to ratchet back for adjusting with the throttle open all the way. That didn't happen.
Now I'm lost. It seems that it wants to shift into 3d but just kinda goes into neutral and won't ingage untill the rpms match the speed the car is moving. Any help would be very appreciated.

Well the tranny shop said they found metal in the fluid and pan so looks like a rebuild is in store for it.

Yup sounds like you have no 3rd gear. I just had the same exact problem with mine. Rebuild or find another used one. I got a used one with 55k on it so I lucked out. If not for that I would of rebuilt it. Good luck!

I'm just gonna have it rebuild to stock or a little better and put a shift kit in it. Hopefully with the quick shifts she will run a low low 15 or a flat 15.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread but I have a very similar question.
I recently re-adjusted my TV cable on my 700R4 transmission (85 LG4) and it was working great. However, being the dumb one that I am, I felt the need to re-adjust it because I thought I had done the procedure wrong and now the car seems like it shifts incorrectly.
I'm really not sure at what RPM it was shifting the first time I adjusted it (when it "felt" right), but now every time I go from 1st gear to 2nd gear, the car sounds like it is revving way too high and it jerks really hard whenever it finally shifts (about 3000 RPMs when I have the pedal about 1/4 of the way down).
I have tried readjusting it several times but each time I adjust it, it doesn't do anything. I also don't hear the racheting sound I heard before when I adjusted it.
Can someone please help me?

Get it some where quick to adjust it properly....The reason mine went out was cause the TV cable wasn't adjusted properly after I put on the TB spacer and caused the shift to 3rd to be VERY LAZY (reving up and then dropping back down). I guess this accelerated the trannies wear till it gave out.
