What to do with 700r4 before install
What to do with 700r4 before install
I kept the 700 from the old 91 firebird I parted out and want to put it into my 91 truck.
Before removed It worked just fine with the exception of the gas pedal was hard to press because of the tv cable being tight for some reason.
I want to do some upgrades to the tranny rather than throwing it in and having something go bad quick, but I dont want to have it completely rebuilt with top notch stuff either $$$.
What I am thinking is..
Some sort of shift kit and better servo(s) (corvette?) to firm shifts so there is no slippage. Recomendations?
New GM torque convertor, the corvette/s-10 or whatever it is that stalls 2100-2400 (forget what its supposed to do).
Overdrive band? think I heard this should be replaced with something better or at minimum be adjusted or something like that. Anyone explain?
Also the truck is TBI now but Im going to carburate it most likely. What should I do for Torque convertor lockup?
Would controling it manually via a switch be good enough? just need it when maintaining speed in OD right? or is there any other time it is needed?
It wil have a floor shifter, will the t-handle with the button work for this or do those only stay on while it is pressed?
There is a good local tranny guy that I will probably have do the work but I would like to pick up the parts on my own (probably cheaper) and maybe faster. Just need to know what to get.
Thanks guys.

If it worked before you took it out of the car, then just change the TC to what you want, install the shift kit (TransGo), and run it. I pulled the tranny out of my 87 T/A with a 100,000 on the clock so that I could change the engine and rebuild the tranny, I wish I had just left the tranny alone. My dad and I tore into the tranny and it was like new! It was the original tranny and had never been out of the car. It was amazing. Dad was like "why are you doing this?"
