moser 12bolt alternative
alright, now i`ve been searching the hell outta this board for the past couple days trying to scrounge info on this and although its a topic that is brought up often, i was unable to find the exact information i need. perhaps you guys could help me out in this post or at least direct me to some posts/sites with answers.
i have a 1977 Dodge w-200 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup that i`ve been trying to sell untill it dawned on me that i`ve been looking for a bigger rear for my gta with 2 sittin in my driveway under the truck. the front is a dana 44 and the rear is a dana 60. im thinking...hoping rather... that i can rebuild one of them instead of spending all the $ on a brand new moser 12-bolt.
which one should i use? will they even fit without major modification? what else will i need to complete this swap? of course the towing gears will have to come out..what should i put in to handle the future zz430 swap? perhaps some of you may have some suggestion/questions/concerns? thanks.

How were you planning on mounting the torque arm? Spring & shock brackets will have to be fabbed, as well as shortening the axle tubes. It can be done, but it won't be easy, definitely not a bolt in deal. A 9" housing & axle kit with a used center section would be more cost effective, considering teh headaches invovled.

Haha, watch out you'll get the gear heads in here for saying something like that. I'd also go with the 12 bolt, I think with the truck differential you will have a lot of trouble finding good gears, I could be wrong. I've seen some brand new Strange 12 bolts on ebay fairly cheap compared to strange's website, infact I saw one yesterday for 1500 and had 1 day left and 0 bids.

The rear is probably a Chrysler 9¼".... if the pan is an octagon, symmetrical shaped gasket, then that's what it is. It's a C-clip rear. Not a particularly robust piece really.
The 74 Dodge Ram 4x4 I used to have with one of those, had 3.55 gears... not too bad for a car, but kind of weak for a truck with 32" tires or whatever.
But, it won't come anywhere near bolting in. Looks like a huge amount of maze and not much cheese at the end.
