Didnt know that that stuff was even out yet. Usually you can put newer version of fluid in a trans that requires the older stuff just not the other way around. Most likly the two are also compatible.

I don't know, but start the car until you are sure it wouldn't harm anything.
If anything, its not hard to drain the pan and refill. Better safe than sorry till you find different.

Mercon V is just synthetic fluid. it's like running mobil 1 instead of valvoline. you'll be fine. however, they are right: you can go up, just not down. but dexron III/Mercon v are ok for GM trannies.

Mercon and Dextron are the same thing, dont confuse that. The only different fNord fluid would be older fluids like Type F. Mercon Type V (5) is a newer semi synthitic blend of fluid that would probably work much better then conventinal Type 3 fluid.
Due to the fact that I work for a Ford dealer, and I get the Mercon V for free, I put it in my new trans years ago. Works great! Just flushed it for the first time several months ago. Came out nice and red... and I drive this thing pretty hard. The switch to synthetic fluid aids in TC clutch engagement and eliminates chatter in most of the older cars I service.
If you change over, you need to FLUSH it. Dropping the pan and adding the new fluid doesn't do squat. You're only doing 1/3 the job. The 700 takes about 12qts. So dropping the pan and putting in 5 qts is no different than putting in 2 qts
