350 auto because it's faster.

Depends on what you intend to do. 305 TPI saves about 80 lbs over the auto, and is usually rated (dependant on year and model) about 10 HP less than 350, but a lot less torque. 5 speed has closer spaced gearing, so for roadracing or "rolling" performance, 5 speed.

For drag racing, and much greater potential performance, the 350 gets the nod. Stock they're pretty close, it will depend on driver skill and exactly what the test of performance is.

As long as its an L69, then 305/5-speed

Otherwise, 350/Auto.

How about a 350 5 speed? As much as I'd love a 350 in my car, I don't know if I want another auto car. I love my 5 speed, just wish the motor it's attached to had some more power.

I agree that L69 engine with 5 speed and 3.73 was a nice setup.

Yeah later 305 TPI 5 spd g92 (like mine) had higher hp/tq ratings, but those 83 and 84 fbody bodies have such nice clean lines.

it'd be the LB9 TPI 305 and 5 speed for me if it was a 89 as mine is, b/c it only lacks 10 less hp and some more torque. But the 5 speed makes it way better to drive around. But I LOVE manual trannies and will never own a auto so i might be a bit biased. Plus all the TPI cars i ever see are auto, and it'd be nice to have a 5 speed it'd be different

any monkey can drive an auto, a manual is more fun, and shows some skill in driving if you can be consistant. besides the fact that manuals transfer more power to the ground. you can have your l98, i'll keep my manual
