Not running right after shift kit ?? PLEAS HELP POINTS RACING SATURDAY AND NO CAR

Well i was excited to take out my car after i put the new trans in. But what i got was nothing short of dissapointment. Now i dont have the detent cable hooked up because for some reason it must be different from a 1987 ta and an 89 RS . Well anyways i put in a B&M street strip shift kit and a corvette servo and it wont shift out of first unless its floored and you shift manually. It also shifts at inconsistant points (i.e. the first time from 1-2 it was at 4500, The second time from 1-2 was 3,000). now 2nd and 3rd gear shift when you floor it also. On the highway 4th does the same thing. Also when i let off of the gas it goes back down to idle and i dont think it is supposed to at 70. Then when i get on the gas a little it will rev like its in neutral untill it gets to like 3500 then it will catch and go. Is this a product of a detent cable needing to be hooked up? Also where can i get a new detent cable at?(i cut my old one because it was stuck). It also feels like it is way slower than before. If this is a problem of the shift kit, will the performance that i lost come back with the proper detent cable on it?

Cliff notes of my problems

1. wont shift from 1-2 unless floored
2. inconsistant shifting from 1-2unless shifted manually.
3. detent cable too short so not hooked up.
4. where do i get a detent cable from and how much are they?
5. Loss of performance.
6. i dont think its shifting as hard as it should.
7. First points race is on saturday ind i dont have another car.

PLEAS HELP ME!!!!!!

Well, considering that your transmission has no idea what its doing or how to react to increasing input torque without the tv cable hooked up, I'm not suprised its not working right.. You've probably already fragged your new transmission if you've driven it around like that...

Thats like not putting your pistons in and wondering why the engine won't run... You can't just skip a major component and expect things to operate. It's there for a reason.

i only drove it around the block. like 5 miles tops. But i thought the TV cable was only for the downshift but it looks like i was wrong. So do you think itll work right if its connected again? Also how do you adjust a TV cable on a TBI? I did a search and only found the adjustment for a TPI.

"Detent" and "kick-down" are from the past (TH350, Powerglide). TV stands for "throttle valve", and it does a lot more with regard to controlling the behaviour of the transmission.

The adjustment proceedure is the same for TPI, TBI, or carb.

The TV cable controls line preasure as well as downshifts. Your trans is fine. You didn't damage it. Here's a good fully adjustable TV cable you can buy. I am using it now and have found that it can be adjusted much easier.

Also, be sure you put the check ***** back in the right positions and that you didn't put too many back in.
