WC T-5 no 5th gear
I have about 1000 miles on the new 350. I was having problems getting it to go into reverse this morning. Then I was going to go to the store, and couldn't get it to go into reverse at all. On my way home from the store, 5th gear dissapeared. What is going on?

By no 5th do you mean that you cant physically put the shifter into the 5th gear position or that you can and when you let out the clutch and theres nothign there..
before going into reverse go into 2nd then reverse quickly..see if that helps..

I was going down the road in 5th. Stopped at a light then when I got to 5th again the engine was just revving. The stick goes into the position, but it is just like neutral now. I tried hitting every gear then reverse. It won't go in at all.

Probably broke the shift fork. It's a piece of cast chinesium, various of them are famous for breaking. I doubt it's the gear or anything expensive or hard to replace.
Pull the trans, remove the extension housing, drive the roll pin out, swap it, reverse the procedure to reassemble. Not too terribly taxing.

You guessed it!!
Closely akin to the stuff they cast ¾" tape decks out of (you TV guys will know what I'm talking about) familiarly known as japanesium. I suspect Honduhs have alot of that in them somewhere too.
Not however very similar to nonobtanium, or irreplacium (which is the only thing you can use to substitute for a broken nonobtanium part).

I got to mess with the bird today after work. I got it on jack stands and started taking things apart. After I had the shifter, rear mount and 4 engine mount bolts out, I noticed a loose bolt on the side of the tranny. It is directly across from the fill, drain plugs. I had a run in with this bolt the first time I rebuilt my engine. I don't know what it does, but I do know it isn't the drain plug (now anyway). So, it wasn't a shift fork made of Chineseium, or japanesium metal that caused it. It was just a bolt made out of nontorqium.

That bolt acts as a pivot for the linkage part between the shift rail, and the 5/reverse shift rod. It should have a clip on the inside similar to an 'E' clip to retain that linkage piece.
It sounds like you (or someone else) have previously tried to remove it, and probably broke the clip off the end of it.
Good news is, it should be an easy repair.

i know what bolt your talking about...the one in the hanlon motorsports video that he says "a lot of guys think they have to remove this, but as u can see, ive completely disassembled the trany without touching it"....like my man said above its something thats pretty simple to fix.

That's exactly right, you don't have to touch it, in fact I don't think I've ever removed one in all the T-5 work I've done..... but in any case, what it does, is hold up part of the linkage that supports the 5th-reverse shift rail; so even though the forks are 2 different pieces, they're both on that one rail.

It only cost some of my time to fix. I know the clip was there at one time. The first time I mess with it was when I rebuilt my 305. I took it most of the way out. It took me most of the rest of the day to get that clip back on it. So, I know it was there. This time it wasn't out all the way, about 1/8" or so. So, I just tightened it up real good, and put everything back together. The bad part was that I was almost ready to pull the thing out when I found it. I guess I can just chalk it up as practice!
