Rear End Gear Ratio Question

I have an '84 Firebird. Carb'd 2.8 v6 with a T-5 transmission. Do I have the 3.23 gears? I haven't looked at my RPO numbers, I was just wondering what these came with most often?

not true. jack car up. rotate both tires in the same direction simultaneously exactly one turn while counting the number of times the driveshaft turns. 3 1/4 turns = 3.23 ... just under 3 1/2 turns = 3.42

My 91 Firebird even with a V8 rolled off the assembly line with 2.73 in the rear. I'm almost thinking that is more common with V6 models. Which is why I'm going to try to up the ratio on my gears. If you do have 2.73 then you would have the code GU2. I've decoded all of my codes, I have 7 codes that aren't even on in the database of thirdgen. What ever that means

I believe it goes like this:

T-5 cars got:
3.08 standard V8
3.42 G92 V8 and all V6
3.73(some L69 cars)

700R4 cars got:
2.73 standard
3.23 performance

what the cars got and have are two very differant things, however hardly no one ever changes gear ratios so there a good chance it still has what it left the factory with.

My 91 came with a performance package and I still got a 2.73 rear end; however, since he doesn't have an automatic transmission like I do it would probally make a difference with a higher gear ratio. I don't know I've seen Firebirds that had stock stuff in it that I never would have thought would have came stock. I mean hell I run my vin number on some web sites and they say that I have a firebird formula but I just have a regular firebird with a lot of extra package stuff. I don't know whats standard anymore. As long as it gets the job done, who cares. Now how ******* is that.
