'02 torsen posi, what grease?
Here is the question. I got an 02 SS rear end 3.42 and I don't know what gear oil to run in it. I know it is a torsen because it has worm gears on 4 corners. It does act like an open rear with no load though. I think that they are supposed to. Am I right? I have no idea if it is supposed to have an additive in it either. I have no information about these things. Can someone help? Thanks.

There's no clutches in those, so there's no need for "clutch friction modifier" additive

maybee you didnt have fluid enough in it or somthing. not to say you didnt know how to fill it but when i researched what to use in mine i came up with No additive required because additive was used in clutch type rears .... i donno just my $.02 ive done a few without it and all is good so far. pretty good units for the prices too.

However, Torsen recommends the friction modifier to keep noise down.
directly from their site:
Torsen for GM vehicles:
Is it true that the Torsen unit in the production Camaro needs the GM modifier added?
GM issued a technical bulletin adding modifier to the rear axle oil. This was done to quiet what we call a "Rusty Screw" noise that we heard in a very small percentage of vehicles. This does not happen in all cases, however to address owner's concerns we asked that the modifier be used in all instances to insure that the driver would not get this noise. When replacing the fluid it is at the owner's discretion whether or not to add the modifier. Elimination of the modifier does not affect durability of the differential.

I have 75-140 synthetic blend in mine and I have had no problems with it. Every once and a while it makes a noise when I have slicks on at the track and I am shifting hard.

Well, I put Valvoline 75-140 full synthetic in it with the GM friction additive. I'll let you know what comes out of it when I drive it today.

i put valvoline 80/90w synthetic in mine. for whatever reason, mine spins both tires the same way as if it was posi when its in the air. i havent drove the car yet to see how it acts under load though

I drove great other than a squeak from the driver's side. I am pretty sure it is brakes because when I push on the brake with any force, it goes away. I also doesn't have any shakes or noises when I go hard threw a turn. I hope that it is just rusty brake rotors that will go away soon. It really made a difference in the change from 3.08 to 3.42.

Synthetic is REQUIRED, and the limited slip is not necessary, but highly recommended by both GM and Torsen. GM recommends 75w-140

hey Mark 85Z28, what spacers did you use in the front? I wanted to get the ZR-1s as well, but 17X11 rears.
