Tranny Stuff
Ok guys, my tranny is still acting weird. I think maybe sinc ei got my TV cable replaced it means that something inside the tranny is sticking. Could i be right? If so, what kinda service will i need done to the trany to make this go away. Will a nice transmission flush help it out? where they fill it up with something that eats build up and all is better?
I need to get the tranny cleaned out anyways right? Whats the best way todo it? Shoudl i goto the nearest tranny shop, get them todo whatever they need to fix it?
SOme d00d told me about some valve inside the tranny, that has tube connected,a nd when its disconnected there is no lockup in the tranny and it will get crappy gas mileage and will shift very firm while disconnected. Anyone know what valve this is so i can see if it needs fixing. Or is my best bet to goto the tranny shop paytheir $65 diagnosis fee and then go from there?
Thanks,
Shane

alrighty, i claled one d00d, and he said that the color and level of the fluid is very important in diagnostics.
The color is a very very dark brown, not even close the the red its supposed to be. He said its time to be overhauled(rebuilt).
Some d00d said he could give me a rebuilt tranny for $650, and anohter said he had a rebuilt 700-r4 out of a 86 trans am for $600. But i dont have that amount of cash at this moment. Another just said $550 with torque converter and shift kit. So, i dunno.

take you car to a trans shop and let them trouble shoot it and you'll know your problem and how much it'll cost to repair.

For those prices you might be getting a "repaired" transmission, but there's no way you're getting a "rebuilt" one.

Besides man, didnt you just say like a week or two ago, that you buddy at the dealership or wherever you go did a complete service and whatnot? That everything looked fine, thats how you know you have a shift kit? hmmmm, something isnt adding up here.

well things i guess seemed to work, but you know after you get one mod done, you seem to feel a gain, but there might not actually be one. I was just kinda hyped up i guess.
My step-dad, who is in iraq, wont let me touch the tranny until he gets back in august. He says let him dioagnose it. For some reason they think flooring it once a day will kill the car, well atleast my mom does, my step-dad knows howto/how-you-do drive a trans am.
And the sop is very reputable, the $375 price tag, includes torque converter and all gaskets, seals, and even the occasional planet. They have been in business for 26 years here in jacksonville, and that is a very long time since way back in that day we were a very small town. I've talked to my mechanic and thats where i got the number from, he said to call them and mension his name. They told me straight up $375 if the tranny has already been removed.

lmfao, do yourself and everyone on here a favor . Sell your car and buy a honda.
Your step dad knows how to drive a trans am? I must have missed that part of th test when i got my lic.
$375 for a new tranny?
Was this mechanic the same noodle who said "d00d you have a shift kit, everything is new"
Im kinda lost, you said in another thread you had the trans serviced and now the fluid is burnt? Was'nt it serviced like last week?
Sounds like it still is a small town full of people who dont have a clue.
And take ede's advice and do a spell check "d00d"
Hey so you have a fried trans, bet your glad you bought those headers!

There's a lot more to a rebuild than seals and gaskets. A B&M Holeshot converter with a 200 RPM stall, which is maybe marginally better than stock at best, is $335 new. How good do you think their work is going to be for that price?

thats not their normall price d00d, thats the price they give my mechanic and hes giving to me. Which might be barely above part costs. A rebuild kit cost $250-$300 new on jegs. So it cant be too much profit.
